On 5th December 2025, the Exclusive Sustainable Tour Operators Association (ESTOA) held its highly anticipated Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Sheraton Hotel Kampala. The event brought together key tourism stakeholders, members, partners, and industry leaders for an afternoon of reflection, celebration, and renewed commitment to sustainable tourism development in Uganda.
The AGM was graced by distinguished guests, including the CEO of Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife & Antiquities, and officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). Their presence highlighted the growing collaboration between government institutions and the private sector in shaping the future of Uganda’s tourism landscape.
Launch of the ESTOA Sustainability Charter
One of the most significant achievements unveiled during the AGM was the ESTOA Sustainability Charter.
This charter marks a major step forward in strengthening responsible tourism standards across the industry. It outlines principles for environmental stewardship, ethical business practices, community empowerment, and the protection of Uganda’s natural and cultural heritage.
The CEO of UTB applauded ESTOA’s leadership in driving sustainability and emphasized the importance of such frameworks in elevating Uganda’s position as a global eco-tourism destination.
Signing of the Eco Brix MOU
In line with ESTOA’s sustainability commitments, the AGM also featured the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Eco Brix, an innovative organization dedicated to recycling and plastic waste reduction.

A key highlight of the AGM was the recognition and awarding of outstanding lodges and tour operators that have demonstrated exceptional service quality, sustainability practices, and contributions to Uganda’s tourism growth.
The awards celebrated excellence in areas such as eco-friendly operations, guest experience, community engagement, and wildlife conservation support. These recognitions serve as a motivation for the entire industry to strive for higher standards and responsible tourism leadership.
Engagement With Sector Partners: UTB, UWA, and the Ministry
The AGM provided a valuable platform for open dialogue and collaboration.
The Executive Director of UTB and representatives from UWA reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with ESTOA to promote Uganda as a premier sustainable destination. Representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife & Antiquities emphasized the importance of joint efforts in implementing national tourism priorities, enhancing product development, and elevating Uganda’s competitiveness.
Their participation strengthened the message that sustainable tourism requires collective action from both public and private actors.
A Forward-Looking Agenda for 2026
As the year draws to a close, the AGM served as both a reflection of achievements and a launchpad for new initiatives.
Key priorities for 2026 discussed included:
